Want a home cinema but don’t have the space in your floorplan? Why not transform an unused garage into a space the whole family can enjoy? This project we completed for our client’s located in Sydney’s North-West suburb of The Ponds, which is right by Tallawong, Kellyville Ridge, Quakers Hills and Parklea, was a lot of fun for the Home Entertainment Solutions team, involving the conversion of a standard single garage, reimagined into a premium Dolby Atmos theatre room. This transformation combines cutting-edge technology with exquisite design, all executed by our highly qualified team, creating a cinematic experience that rivals commercial theatres.

The transformation process involved the installation of a new timber wall with 13mm plasterboard, internal soundshield insulation, and 16mm black timber board, along with extensive plasterboarding and sanding throughout to take the space from a garage to a cosy, comfortable room. This new wall minimises sound travel to and from external areas, maintaining the room’s acoustic integrity.

To achieve superior sound quality, additional acoustic treatments are essential. The room features acoustic timber slats on the ceiling and front wall, which help to manage sound reflections and enhance audio clarity. Black acoustic panels further absorb sound and reduce unwanted echoes, ensuring that the audio experience is as immersive as possible.

The room’s design incorporated architectural wall lighting and four smart LED downlights, creating a stylish and functional lighting scheme. Black plush carpeting adds a touch of luxury while also contributing to the room’s acoustic properties. For the visual components, our team installed an Epson TW7100 4K projector. Renowned for its high-resolution imaging and vibrant colour reproduction, this projector sets the stage for an immersive viewing experience. Paired with a 120” 16:9 ScreenPro acoustic screen, the projector delivers crisp and clear visuals, ensuring every movie night feels like a trip to the cinema. A raised timber platform also enhances viewing angles and adds a touch of sophistication.

Sound is crucial to a theatre room’s ambiance, and this renovation does not disappoint. The setup features three KEF Ci160.2CL in-wall front speakers and two KEF Ci160.2CL in-wall surround speakers, strategically positioned to create an enveloping audio experience. Adding to the depth of sound are two KEF Ci160.2CR in-ceiling speakers, enhancing the Dolby Atmos experience with overhead sound effects. The powerful Proficient 10” subwoofer provides deep, resonant bass, ensuring that every rumble and explosion is felt as much as it is heard.

A Denon AVRX1800H AV receiver serves as the heart of the audio-visual system, seamlessly integrating and controlling all components to deliver superior sound and picture quality. Each component of the system has been carefully chosen and calibrated to work in perfect harmony, creating an optimal viewing and listening environment.

Comfort is also a key consideration in any home theatre. This room features two rows of electronic recliners, providing plush seating that adjusts for optimal viewing and relaxation. A black colored AC split unit ensures that the room remains cool and comfortable, no matter how intense the action on screen gets. The final touches included painting to complement the room’s modern aesthetic, with all electrical works, cabling, and labor done in house by the Home Entertainment Solutions team, ensuring a seamless integration of all components. Detailed programming and calibration have been performed to fine-tune the audio-visual setup, while customer training ensures that the owners are well-versed in operating their new home theatre system.
